Willie "Billy" Larry Dennis Walther

Funeral services for Willie "Billy" Walther, 73 of Lincoln, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln with Rev. Dale Bohm officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Willie Larry Dennis Walther was born on April 17, 1947 in Lincoln, Texas. He was one of 10 children born to William Paul Walther and Hattie Amanda (Symmank) Walther. He was baptized on May 4, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. H.A. Stroebel and confirmed on March 26, 1961 also at St. John Lutheran Church by Rev. Henry J. Gerike. His confirmation verse was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Billy served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Jennifer Kieschnick on July 7, 1973 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Carl Biar. Billy worked as a sheet rocker for many years before going to work at Flying Z Ranch in Lincoln. He also worked as an equipment operator. He enjoyed barbequing as well as fishing and hunting. Billy passed away the morning of Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home in Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Hattie Walther; his first wife, Darlene Jatzlau Walther; his sister, Elsie Jatzlau Gruetzner & her husbands, Erwin Jatzlau & Marvin “Smokey” Gruetzner; two brothers, Eddie Walther and Elmo Walther & his wife, Bernice; his parents-in-law, Herbert & Dora Jatzlau and George & Edna Kieschnick, and brothers-in-laws, Herbert Biehle, Edwin Lerche, Paul Krause, Leon Dube, Ronnie Akin, and Elmon Gruetzner. Billy is survived by his wife, Jennifer Walther of Lincoln; four children, Byron Walther & his wife, Kristina of Victoria, Barry Walther & his wife, Susan of Loebau, Belinda Silva & her husband, Johnnie of Giddings, Brandice “Brandy” Gross & her husband, Aaron of Fayetteville; extended family, Jason & Kim Haas of Giddings; twelve grandchildren, Thomas Walther & his wife, Laura of Knoxville, TN, Chloe Cavazos & her husband, James of Victoria, Britani Walther of Victoria, Jordan Walther of Loebau, Blake Walther of Loebau, Brent Hass & his fiancé, Allison Kaiser of Giddings, SPC Cayden Haas of Leesville, LA, Khye Silva of Giddings, Taylor Leer & her husband, Josh of Winchester, Reid Gross of Fayetteville, Miranda Gross of Fayetteville, and Brynlee Haas of Giddings; four great grandchildren, Eloise Cavazos of Victoria, Macey Walther of Knoxville, TN, Blakely Leer of Winchester, and K.J. Leer of Winchester; five sisters, Edna Gruetzner of Kerrville, Bernie Symank & her husband, Herman of Houston, Meta Krause of Picayune, MS, Della Mae Biehle of Lexington, and Carolyn Friedrich & her husband, Nelson of Lincoln; one brother, Elton “Sonkey” Walther & his wife, Betty of Lincoln; three sisters-in-law, Lynette Patschke & her husband, Calvin of Lincoln, Joyce Truett & her husband Steve of Colorado Springs, and Laverne Akin of College Station; four brothers-in-law, Rev. Clyde Kieschnick & his wife, Ellen of Abilene, Mike Kieschnick & his wife, Janet of Terrell, Johnny Kieschnick & his wife, Brenda of Lincoln, and Fritz Kieschnick & his wife, Mary of Lincoln, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Brian Kieschnick, Jeremy Kieschnick, Jason Kieschnick, Justin Kieschnick, Ronnie Symank, Russell Friedrich, and Jon Walther. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Walther, Brent Haas, Cayden Haas, Blake Walther, Reid Gross, and Khye Silva. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Hospice Brazos Valley in La Grange, or to the charity of one’s choice.
