He was baptized on October 25, 1936 by Rev. Adolph Michalk and was confirmed on April 2, 1950 by Rev. Ludwig Karcher at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. His confirmation verse was Isaiah 54:10, “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.” On June 3, 1956 he married Lorine Woelfel at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln. He worked many years as a sheetrocker before becoming the manager at Lincoln Water Supply. Monroe had faith in Jesus and showed it by serving others. While he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Houston, he served on the usher team, the board of elders, and board of trustees. After returning to the Lincoln community, he served St. John as a trustee, was very involved with the Lincoln Community Club, served with the Fedor Volunteer Fire Department, and was the “official” greeter at Elm Creek Inn Cafe. When it came to barbequing, Monroe enjoyed making it for church events and reunions, and his skills were requested for many weddings and celebrations. He was also very active with AAL (Aid Association for Lutherans) and served as president in the Houston and Lincoln area. Monroe was a collector of all things, especially caps and antiques. He always found something to buy “just in case”. Monroe could be found cheering on the Houston Astros, the Aggies, and the Longhorns. He also enjoyed tending his cattle, hunting for squirrels, fishing, and spending time with his dog “Buddy”. Monroe passed away during the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in Austin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oswald & Anna Patschke; four brothers, Alton & Marie Patschke, Arnold & Laverne Patschke, Wilbert Patschke, and Edmund “Pat” Patschke; three sisters, Alice & Raymond Proske, Sydonia & Freddy Iselt, and Verline Patschke; four brothers-in-law, Milton Woelfel, Clarence & Doris Woelfel, Louis Jr. “Sam” & Novaline Woelfel, and Randolph Woelfel, and five sisters-in-law, Emily & Wilbert Birnbaum, Alice & Noah Fischer, Ruth Wachsmann, Vernie Arldt, and Ellen Schulze.
