Services for Mattie Pearl McBride, age 91 of Rockdale, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale with Pastor Kenneth Morris officiating. Burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Visitation is Friday, February 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Mattie Pearl McBride was born to the late Ferd Reed and Tennie Wells on January 21, 1931 in Sharp, Texas. Of 13 children, she was the “baby” and the last surviving Reed. She was a sweet and kind woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. Therefore, adopted a host of names. She was also known as MOMMO, Ain’t Mat, Ain’t Baby, Mat and Mattie just to name a few. She accepted Christ at an early age and has been a long-standing member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. She served faithfully on the Usher Board and Mission 1 & 2 as a dedicated and dependable servant of the Lord. She was a true believer of God. She raised her family in truth, love, prayer and taught her family to trust God no matter what the problem was. She was a mother to all who needed one and the Matriarch of the entire family. She attended school in Sharp, Texas and Old Aycock School in Rockdale, Texas She married Emmet James McBride Sr. on January 10, 1948. To this union were 10 children. Four preceded her in death. Emmett James McBride Jr., Phyllis Lee McBride-Smith, Lydia Laverne Farwell-McBride and Patricia McBride and two grandchildren. She departed this life on January 25, 2022 and leaves to her cherished memory four daughters and two sons. Kay McBride of Rockdale, Juanita Howell of Harker Heights, Texas, Pearlie McBride of Rockdale, Stephanie McBride of Rockdale, Earnest McBride of Rockdale and John McBride of Rockdale; 29 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren with two on the way, a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
