Kimberly Michelle Mitchell
July 16, 1961 - January 12, 2022
Kimberly Michelle Mitchell “What a Wonderful Life” Kimberly Michelle Mitchell was born July 16, 1961, to Edna Earle and Carnell Mitchell. She entered this world with a presence that would draw others to her and make her beloved by many and a stranger to none. She joined her older siblings Bonnor and Liz, and Deneene and Delbert would soon follow making her the middle child of this family unit. Kim also had older siblings from her father’s side, Sammy, Renda, and Direne, all from Houston, Texas. She hit the ground running and lived a life surrounded by love that not everyone is blessed to have. On her maternal side, Hope and Barry were cousins who were more like older siblings and Aunt Doris Cook “Honey Dear” always held a special place in her heart. Her paternal family, the Mitchell’s, were a close-knit group of special aunts, uncles, and cousins. They grew up with a special bond and closeness. We all reveled in her special light full of love, laughter, and fun. Kim was a character and had a sense of humor that was second to none. She joined Springfield Baptist Church at an early age and her faith never wavered. She would grow up in Rockdale as an adventurous child and become the force of nature that would define her life. She was always her authentic self … unapologetically “Kimberly Michelle Mitchell”. In junior high, a promising career in basketball was cut short by knee injuries that ended her athletic career by high school. Kim graduated from Rockdale High School in 1979 and attended Prairie View A&M University. She became a corrections officer and worked at Alcoa during her early career. She had several jobs before becoming self-employed as a landscaper. She loved creating art with her rocks and was meticulous in her work. The role that made her proudest was that as mother to her only child, Patrick. He gave her a clearer sense of purpose in life and helped her redefine success. She would call him the greatest achievement of her life. Her nephews and nieces also made her proud, and she had a special relationship with each of them. “To get a friend, you must first be a friend”, and she had many. She gave of herself, and it came back to her in measurable and immeasurable ways. Our love for our dear Kim will continue to abide within us all forever. Kim was preceded in death by her parents, special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom she mourned. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Patrick Carnell Mitchell; Cousin/big brother, Thomas Barry Cook (Gwen); siblings Bonnor Galloway (Diana), Elizabeth Galloway McQuitter, Deneene Mitchell (Felix), Delbert Mitchell; Sammy, Direne, and Renda; Loren and Todd Wright; Jackie, Latisha, Necole Cook; Nephews Wesley Henderson, Shaun Price, Trent Eliot Mitchell, Jason Galloway, Ross Mitchell, and William McQuitter; niece, Whitney Galloway; great nephews Markel Henderson, Jordan Galloway, Javen Mitchell, Alex Galloway, Eli Galloway; and great nieces FeAsia, Reyan, and Kaitlyn Henderson; Sophia Galloway, Taelynn Price; The Mitchells, The Andersons, The Williams, The Reeds, The Everages; a loving community of other relatives and friends.
