Funeral services for John "J.M" Lynn, 91, of Lexington, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Tanglewood Baptist Church in Tanglewood, Texas with Rev. David Atwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 6 in Lexington. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Lexington. The family will be present for visitation Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. John "J.M" Lynn was born on October 29, 1924 to Richard Albert and Hemy (Brown) Lynn in Tanglewood, Texas. J.M. joined the Army in 1943 and served with Company 517 storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. He married Gladys O'Nell Simmons in Tanglewood on June 1, 1948. J.M. worked as a paper cutter for Champion Paper Mill for 35 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 6 in Lexington, the Lexington Garden Club, and was a faithful member of Thomas Avenue Baptist Church in Pasadena and of Tanglewood Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to the senior center, gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. J.M. passed away the morning of September 6, 2016 in Giddings. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Gladys; his parents, Richard and Hemy Lynn; two daughters, Rita Stephens and Kathrine Carter; one sister, Shirley Lynn and one brother, Dick Lynn. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Sturm of Cedar Creek; son-in-law, Billy Stephens of Tanglewood; four grandchildren, Jeremy Tyler of Cedar Creek, Crystal Klepetko and her husband, Rick of Crosby, Greg Carter and his wife, Tiffany of Kingwood, and Mandy Schank and her husband, Robert of Deer Park; four great grandchildren, Jonathan Klepetko of Crosby, Rachel Klepetko of Crosby, Jesse Tyler of Cedar Creek, and Colton Lovelace of Deer Park as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry W. Witte Jr., Craig Wiesepape, Greg Carter, Billy Stephens, Colton Lovelace, Robert Schank, Jonathan Klepetko, and Rick Klepetko. Memorials may be made to Tanglewood Baptist Church at 11203 North Highway 77, Lexington, Texas 78947, Lee County Cancer Resource Center at 165 West Austin St., Giddings, Texas 78942 or to the charity of one's choice.
