Funeral services for John W. Darsey Jr., 86, of Giddings, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Pin Oak. Military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 12:30 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 7:00 am until 8:00 am at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm. John Wesley Darsey Jr. was born on November 24, 1933 in Groveton, Texas to John Wesley Sr. and Lora Inez (Perkins) Darsey. He served in the United States Air Force from July 1952 until July 1956. During that time, he married the love of his life, Mildred Ida Meuth, on February 27, 1954 in Austin. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years and retired in 1998. John was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pin Oak where he served on the maintenance board for many years. He loved working with his hands and would do maintenance and construction for his neighbors and ran John’s Mobile Home Service. John also enjoyed fishing, doing woodworking, and taking care of his cattle. John passed away the morning of Sunday, October 25, 2020 in Smithville. He is preceded in death by his parents, John & Lora Darsey; two brothers, William Darsey and James Darsey, and one sister, Inez White. John is survived by his wife, Mildred Darsey of Giddings; son, John W. III & Peggy Darsey of Giddings; daughter, Linda C. & Douglas Blaha of Giddings; four grandchildren, Joseph Emerson of Giddings, Amberly & Scott Houston of New Caney, Michelle Emerson of Giddings, and John W. IV & Jacque Darsey of New Caney; six great grandchildren, Kylee Houston, Seth Bauman, Tyler Houston, Makayla Schatuschick, Landon Bauman, and Joseph Emerson Jr.; four brothers, Joe Darsey, Thomas Darsey, Ray Darsey, and Ronald Darsey; one sister, Sandra McClure, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Pallbearers will be Scott Houston, Tyler Houston, Joseph Emerson, Clinton Meuth and Josh Meuth. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or charity of your choice.
