Jean Escalante

June 24, 1932 - January 31, 2022

Funeral services for Jean Escalante, 89 of San Antonio and formerly of Giddings, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jean Escalante was born on June 24, 1932 in Giddings, Texas to Jesus and Jesusa (Ortega) Perez. She married Pedro “Pete” Escalante on January 11, 1950. They were blessed with one son, Arthur. Jean worked at the Giddings Public Library and also at the Giddings State School. She enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, coloring, and traveling to visit different casinos. Her family and friends were important to her, and she always looked forward to spending time with them. Jean passed away the morning of Monday, January 31, 2022 at Parkway Assisted Living in San Antonio. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Christopher Escalante, and six siblings. Jean is survived by her son, Arthur & Yolanda Escalante of San Antonio; two brothers, Ben & Helen Perez of Austin and Jesse & Linda Perez of Austin, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Jesse Paul Perez, Michael Rangel, Marcus Escalante, Eric Escalante, Martin Rangel, and Fernando Escalante.
