Frances Lucille Baasen, 78, of Caldwell, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2022. A public visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the chapel at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home, Caldwell. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Frances Baasen Fillip was born on September 27, 1943 to Rudolph and Lou Allie Baasen in Giddings, Texas. She was one of six siblings. Frances met her true love and future husband, Henry Fillip, in Caldwell, Texas and they were married September 1973. In May of the following year they were blessed with their only daughter, Kristal Gayle Fillip. Frances loved to cook, so it was no surprise that she worked for 34 years as a cook for Caldwell ISD at numerous campuses. She also held jobs at J&H Grocery store alongside her brothers Kenneth and Douglas. She worked at the Caldwell Nursing home and a meat packing business as well. For about 25 years in the summertime, she would work at Hus School Encampment preparing meals for the campers. Her daughter, Kristal, would tag along and help in the kitchen as she loved spending time with her mom. Frances took her first and only plane ride to Las Vegas in 2000 to witness the marriage of her daughter to Charles Chovanec. That union blessed her with two lovely granchildren. Trevin William Chovanec born in 2003 and Kinsley Nicole Chovanec born in 2014. Frances enjoyed traveling to the beach in Sargent, gardening and baking when her health permitted it, solving jig saw and crossword puzzles along with visiting her daughter in Brenham on the weekends. Frances loved her beloved furry companion, Rocky. He kept her company for many years until his passing in 2011, and left a forever paw print on her heart. Frances was a member of the Cooks Point Methodist Church as a child but later in life attended the Cowboy Church in Caldwell. Frances also frequented the Senior Center in Caldwell almost daily for the last twelve years or so. She made many new friends and got to reminiscence with old acquaintances. Frances was even nominated for Citizen/ Volunteer of the Year in 2015. One of her dearest and best friends, JoAnne Barak, was with her until the end, witnessing her last breath. She was blessed to have her by her side. Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, her parents, Rudolph and Lou Allie Baasen; Brothers Alton and Douglas Baasen; Nephew Kevin Baasen and sister-in-law Ruth Baasen. Frances is survived by her daughter, Kristal and her husband Charles Chovanec; brothers, Kenneth, Larry and Delbert Baasen of Caldwell; grandchildren, Trevin and Kinsley Chovanec of Brenham, Jennifer and Darrell Marek of Lexington, Stephanie and James Condon of Caldwell, Gary and Kim Baasen also of Caldwell, as well as her step-son Stanley Fillip and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Brazos Valley Hospice, nurses at Burleson County Hospital, Dr. Steven Higginbotham and her neighbor Ms. Dorothy for watching over her. Thank you to all of her dear friends at the Senior Citizen for giving her the companionship and love she came to enjoy daily. Special, special thank you to JoAnne Barak for her unwavering devotion and assistance to Frances in her time of need. Express condolences at PhillipsandLuckey.com.
