Elda Mae Glover Clare, 80, of Madisonville passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00 am at the Lexington City Cemetery. Arrangements are being conducted by Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale, TX. Elda was born on February 6, 1942 to Jessie Willard and Hattie Glover in Elgin, TX. She was the second born of 5 children, four of which were daughters. She was raised on a ranch which meant hard work and family were values she learned at an early age. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin in Bryan in 1960 and began a career in retail lumber. She was a quick learner and eventually managed several retail lumber stores. She designed and built her own home and married Waymon W. Clare in January 1979. She had a profound love of family and was very caring. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and then later in life her great grandchildren. She loved to read, tend her garden and watch baseball, she was a Texas Rangers and Astros fan. She and Waymon loved Bluegrass music and traveled to festivals across the state to hear the music they loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Lousie and husband Harry Bond, Jessie and husband Philip Sabo, and son, Burt Picone. Elda leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, Waymon W. Clare of Madisonville, sons, Lewis Picone and wife Cheryl of Bryan, Eddie Picone and wife Mary of Madisonville, daughter, Barbie Turner and husband Alan of Lexington. Stepson, Darrell Clare and wife Tammy of Lexington, sister Margaret Glover of Austin, brother Larry Glover of Bryan. 11 grandchildren, Clayton Picone and wife Kim, Ashley Picone and husband Devontae Paldo, Lindsey Clements and husband Sean, Rebecca Birkhead, Eric Banks and wife Caprica, James Forman Jr., Dynel Forman, Jeremy Knippa and wife Zoe, Kaylie Clare, Malinda Borren and husband Keith, and Lane Turner. 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in remembrance of Elda Clare.
