Edwin Louis Hlavaty

Edwin Louis Hlavaty, 90 of Caldwell, Texas passed away on Saturday June 11, 2022 in Bryan, Texas. He is the son of Walter and Matilda Hlavaty. A public visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2022 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas. Edwin was born on December 30, 1931 in the community of Cooks Point Texas. He was one of 40 graduates of Caldwell High School in 1952. From 1955 to 1956, Edwin served in the U.S. Army. He was asked to attend the officer’s training school which required him to extend his tour of duty. He declined the offer and completed basic training. When his training was complete, he was transferred to European Command and stationed in Germany where he served as Communication Chief. Edwin won top marksman in small arms in the 73rd Unit in 1956 in which he served. After being honorably discharged he moved back to Texas to work for the highway department in Bryan. Edwin was the soil testing specialist for the TXDOT and then transferred to the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Edwin spent the last 13 years of his career working in air-conditioning and refrigeration and heating repair and maintenance. After suffering a work injury in 1983, he retired to Cooks Point care for his mother. Edwin enjoyed planting various fruit trees and gardening in his later years and he shared his harvest with friends and family. His hobbies included, fishing, hunting and traveling. He travelled to both Europe, central and south America. He represented the State of Texas in the World Tour Fair and Brno Czech Republic. Edwin was a life time member of the SPJST Lodge 17, and the Texas Czech Genealogical Society. He supported the Czech Culture Center of Houston and the Burleson County Czech Heritage Society. Edwin was a long-time member of the Caldwell Brethren Church early in life served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, Board of Elders and Chairman. In 2003 he Joined the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan, Texas. Edwin was proceeded in death by his parents. Express condolences at PhillipsandLuckey.com
