Dario Mireles
December 19, 1929 - January 12, 2022
Dario Mireles was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed peacefully among family on January 12, 2022. Dario was an unassuming man with deep wisdom and rich character, gained over his 92 years, that served as a model and inspiration. He will be greatly missed. Dario was born to Lorenzo and Petra Mireles on December 19, 1929 in Rockdale, Texas. As a member of the US Air Force from 1948 to 1952, he served his country in the Korean War, stationed across the world in Japan. Following his military service, he returned to Rockdale and married Margaret Munoz in 1959. Together, they had 4 children: Lawrence, Rosemary, Ricky and Tom. Dario was most at-home in a small town, but he saw much of the United States while working for Coffield in Rockdale, traveling to all corners of the country. In 1971, he and the family moved to Fairfield, Texas where he called home for the past 50 years. In Fairfield, Dario had decades of service first with Brown & Root and later with Fluor Daniel, working at the Big Brown power plant primarily as a Millwright. He held himself to a high standard and took pride in his craft – a value that he instilled in his children. An avid sports fan, Dario was happiest following and supporting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they competed in multiple sports at all levels. He was grounded in the importance of family and greatly cherished annual gatherings, spending time with extended family from Rockdale, Tyler and Houston. His wife of 54 years, Margaret, passed in 2013. Surviving family members include his four children: Lawrence Mireles and wife Kim Mireles; Rosemary Montgomery and husband Danny Montgomery; Ricky Mireles and Shana Mireles; and Tom Mireles and wife Deepa Mireles; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Mireles and wife Lacey; Dustin Mireles and wife Katie; Colton Mireles and wife Nikki; Weston Montgomery and Garrett Montgomery; Byron Mireles and Noah Mireles; Kush Mireles, Anoushka Mireles and Ruhi Mireles; three great-grandchildren Addison Mireles, Brynlee Mireles and Lane Mireles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A memorial service will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 10th at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home, 1041 US-79 in Rockdale.
