Funeral services for Barbara Symm, 61 of Serbin, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Symm family will be present for visitation Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Barbara Ellen Symm was born on July 6, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Erwin William Schulze and Mildred Edith (Schroeder) Schulze. She was baptized on August 14, 1960 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Houston by Rev. Wayne Dittlof and confirmed on June 2, 1974 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester by Rev. Adolph Brand. Her confirmation verse was John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” On August 23, 1980, she was united in marriage to Michael Symm at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Adolph Brand. This union was blessed with three children, Andrea, Erica, and Timothy. Barbara worked at Invader Boat, Durrenberger Flowers, Giddings Livestock Commission, and St. Paul Lutheran School as an assistant cook. She also volunteered as the school Librarian for 30 years. Barbara loved helping Ms. Joyce at the Rodeo Arena with any event. She loved sewing, cooking, gardening, her chickens, raising orphan baby calves, and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved vacationing in the mountains of Colorado and she loved her pets. Barbara passed away the evening of Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Baylor Scott & White in College Station. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Mildred Schulze; her in-laws, Victor and Gladys Symm, and one brother-in-law, Harvey Symm. Barbara is survived by her husband, Michael Symm of Serbin; son, Timothy and Stephanie Symm of Serbin; two daughters, Andrea and Jordan Goedrich of Ozona and Erica and Stephen Iselt of Serbin; brother, Steven and Jan Schulze of Katy; sister, Janet Campbell of Lexington; four grandchildren, Lukas Iselt of Giddings, Cora Iselt of Giddings, Holden Goedrich of Ozona, and Kamdyn Goedrich of Ozona; her two sisters-in-law, Joise Symm and Karen Symm; one brother-in-law, David and Tina of Lariat, as well as numerous other family members and friends and her cat, Juliet, and dog, Petey. Serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Goedrich, Stephen Iselt, Bradley Campbell, Robert Schulze, Clint Teinert, and James Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Lindner, Alan Lindner, Larry Schatte, Eli Symm, Lukas Iselt, and Holden Goedrich. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
