Funeral services for Armando Gamez, 50 of Austin, Texas and formerly of Mexico, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Armando Gamez was born on August 21, 1971 in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico to Anacleto and Felicitas (Rodriguez) Gamez. On September 20, 1996, he married Margarita Garza in Austin, Texas. They were blessed with two daughters, Christina and Rachel. Mando worked as a mechanic, working on cars for many years. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed barbequing “Mexican Style”, reminiscing about the family farm back in Mexico, fishing on the beach, and spending time with his family and friends. Mando passed away the evening of Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Baylor Scott and White in Round Rock, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anacleto and Felicitas Gamez, and two siblings, Erasmo Gamez-Rodriguez and Eduardo Gamez-Rodriguez. Mando is survived by his wife, Margarita (Garza) Gamez of Austin and formerly of Giddings; two daughters, Christina and Jose Diaz of Austin and Rachel Herrera of Manor; eleven grandchildren, Marissa Mendez of Killeen, Alyssa Mendez of Manor, Juan and Makayla Diaz of Colorado, Yamileth Diaz of Austin, Cristina and Matthew Birdwell of Manor, Dinora Diaz and Jorge Zuniga of Manor, Karina and Gerardo Ortiz of Austin, Arturo and Alicia Guzman of Austin, Gloria Guzman and Alfonso Labra of Pflugerville; Felix Diaz and Guadalupe Barahona Lopez of Austin, and Saul Diaz Guzman of El Salvador; sixteen great grandchildren; eight siblings, Alicia Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Marcelina Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Maria Trinidad Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Elena Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Herlinda Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Gilberto Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, Humberto Gamez-Rodriguez of Mexico, and Mauro Gamez-Rodriguez of Dallas. Serving as pallbearers will be Felix Diaz, Mariah Garza, Arturo Guzman, Isaac Callazo, Omar Martinez, and Oscar Martinez. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.
