Adelia Mary Lorenz

Adelia Mary Lorenz, 96, of Serbin, Texas passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. She was born Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924 in Sand, Texas, to Theodore and Clara (Menzel) Groeschel. Pastor Herman Schmidt baptized her at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin on May 4, 1924. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School at Serbin and was confirmed on Palm Sunday April 10, 1938 by Pastor Herman Schmidt. Her Confirmation verse was Psalm 27: V.1 - The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid. She grew up on a farm doing many farm chores, such as chopping and picking cotton, picking corn, and gardening, developing a very strong work ethic. After Confirmation she worked as a nanny in Giddings, San Antonio, and then for the Gorden family in Houston, Michigan, and Massachusetts. On November 18, 1945, she married Ervin Wilhelm Lorenz at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They farmed for a number of years and later she worked at Koslan’s Furniture, City Meat Market, and Invader Boat Company. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, sewing, baking and canning, but especially doing counted cross-stitch. She enjoyed showing her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to make homemade noodles. Her favorite pastime was playing 42, but she also played a mean game of straight dominoes, teaching her great-grandchildren how to play. She loved family time and enjoyed going to events that the grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Clara (Menzel) Groeschel; husband, Ervin Lorenz; sons, Wilbert and Dennis; parents-in-law, Carl and Theresia (Vogel) Lorenz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Velma Groeschel and second wife Wren, Norbert and Elvira Groeschel; sister and brothers-in-law, Leona and Raymond Wolff and Alfred Lorenz; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Alma and Alfred Menzel, Rudolf and Martha Lorenz, Leona and Milton Krakosky, Anton and Mildred Lorenz, and Ewald Lorenz. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Milton Albrecht and Joyce and Robert Hinze; grandchildren, Sharon and Jeff Claxton, Glen Albrecht, Nicholas and Karla Hinze, John and Ashley Hinze, Mary and Jeremy Davis; great-grandchildren, Sadie Claxton, Reagan Hinze, and Cooper Hinze; sisters and brother-in-law, Gertrude Lorenz, Nadine and Bill Christiansen; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Burnies and Lawrence Richter, Lucille Lorenz, and Bernice Wolff. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, September 14, 2020 from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 7:00 am until 11:00 am at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present Monday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor John Schmidt officiating and burial following in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Glen Albrecht, Nicholas Hinze, John Hinze, Jeff Claxton, Jeremy Davis, and Ray Herbrich. Honorary Pallbearers are Sharon Claxton, Mary Davis, Karla Hinze, Ashley Hinze, Sadie Claxton, Reagan Hinze, and Cooper Hinze.
